Operations Review
Operations Considerations and steps for organizations
Operations often have significant opportunities for increases in environmental efficiency.
- Organizations that own or operate buildings may find significant savings through the facilities resources (section above).
- Organizations whose activities involve travel may have fleet and vehicular possibilities.
- Groups that bring people together for events or meetings may have the greatest impact by helping participants to carpool or access public or human-powered transportation to gatherings, or by dispersing activities to locations close to members’ residences.
- Groups may be able to conserve member’s resources by moving some in-person functions to on-line, conference call, mail and e-mail modes of doing business. On-line services such as Free Conference facilitate remote coordination.
Simplified Operations Review:
This works best when a group of people from across the organization brain storm together.
- List the activities and movement of people and goods involved in an organization.
- List the types of energy consumed in the activities, through facilities, and associated travel to, from, and during gatherings.
- Brain storm alternative approaches to accomplishing the group’s purpose and activities.
- Prioritize proposed changes in terms of carbon footprint reduction and ability to effectively accomplish tasks/purpose.
- Plan implementation, communication, roles and when/how to verify that the changes are fulfilling desired objectives.
