Urge your employer to go Green
- Ask your management team to make a long-term commitment to reducing CO2 emissions. While your company is likely to reap bottom line benefits in addition to the overall health and environmental results, a commitment of employee time and attention is required along the way.
- A small budget for computer and spreadsheet resources may be needed, or a consulting budget if outside expertise is desired.
- Through management designate a ‘climate champion’ with enthusiasm, communication skills and some flexibility in his/her schedule for team related tasks.
- Include the initiative in his/her job description to help sustain and focus organizational accountability.
- Help define organizational boundaries with respect to CO2 emissions.
Form a Team
- Recruit a team to lead internal efforts to give the initiative the benefit of multiple perspectives.
- Involve representatives from a range of departments and business functions helps ensure that proposed improvements are workable
- Give new initiatives an ambassador for implementing in each area.
- If an organization is large enough, several smaller teams may be needed for different areas.
