Three families in Richmond undertake a shared life of sustainable living. Energy-saving systems include photovoltaic panels, solar windows and collectors, a gray water garden, rainwater collection, a compost toilet, and a converted car fuel system for the community's shared vehicle.

Total cost for the common house: $105,000

Photovoltaic Panels with Tracking System: $13,000

Solar Windows Heat House

Hot Water Solar Collector Panels

Gray Water Garden

Rainwater collection: $1,500

Composting Toilet Collection Bins: $200 each

Griesel Car: $500
