The organizations listed below are groups whose mission or projects include working with government agencies on initiatives that promote climate stability.

• Join LEXCoolCity to help Lexington reduce its carbon footprint to below 1990 levels. www.Lexcoolcity.org
• Work with the Sierra Club on its Bluegrass conservation and political committees
• Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee BPAC is citizens and Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government staff working to promote, develop, and maintain bicycle and pedestrian facilities in Fayette and Jessamine counties.
• Bluegrass Pride provides information and resources in support of waste reduction and recycling
• Fayette Alliance advocates for protecting our unique agricultural enterprise from suburban encroachment. 
• GreenLex.org GreenLex’s mission is to help make Lexington-Fayette Urban County a “model green city” through education, discussion and action.
• LFUCG Environmental Commission works on area clean-up, greenway and wildlife projects.  The Commission also recognizes environmental contributions through annual awards.
  

Advocate with council district representatives for environment friendly local policies such as:

• maintaining the urban service area boundary and opposing urban sprawl
• have infill and downtown development efforts that promote sustainability as well economic goals
  
• Incorporating a carbon footprint review as part of the sign-off on all new construction or renovations - as part of the building permitting or zoning process.
• adding incentives for green roofs, pervious pavement, drainage swales
• develop fast-track green building permits
• require projects receiving support or incentives from Commerce Lexington,  the LFUCG, or similar entities meet enhanced environmental standards— Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) system for rating green buildings, Energy Star, etc.
