Take Advantage of Kentucky Statewide Programs
Each of the programs below offers services to state residences and businesses that can help minimize carbon emissions or mitigate the effects. Many state agencies have citizen advisories that further help guide and enhance programs.
- Kentucky Division of Air Quality : Monitors KY air and develops initiatives to minimize air pollution as classified by EPA. In an April 2007 decision the US Supreme Court directed the EPA to reexamine and modify its policies to regulate greenhouse gases as pollutants under the Clean Air Act. Once revised policies are in place, KY Div of Air Quality would include those in its mandate.
- Kentucky Environmental Education Council : Develops classroom and outdoor environmental curriculum, trains and certifies environmental educators statewide.
- Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center : The Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center (formerly Kentucky Partners) is Kentucky's statewide program that helps small - and medium-sized manufacturers identify and implement pollution prevention plans, based in Louisville.
- The Center also runs Kentucky Energy Efficiency Program for Schools (KEEPS) which helps Kentucky school districts and higher education institutions reduce energy consumption and operating expenses. Fayette County Public Schools have not participated to date.
- KY Affiliate of the National Energy Education Project makes hands-on energy education programming and curriculum materials readily available to schools throughout Kentucky.
- The KY Office of Energy Policy will recognize organizations that exceed energy improvements of 10% or more, as part of the state's participation in the EPA's Energy Star Program.
